FAQs

BROW TATTOO FAQS
WHAT IS NANO NEEDLING AND MICROBLADING?

Nano needling and Microblading are both meticulous technique whereby pigment is deposited beneath the surface of the skin to create the illusion of a single hair.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?

The main difference between the two procedure is that Nano needling uses a tiny needle (0.25 diameter) with the aid of a vibrating Digital Machine to deposit pigment beneath the surface of the skin, whereas, Microblading uses a thin blade.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN PAIN LEVEL?

With Nano needling the feeling has been reported to being similar to threading and most have found the pain minimal and is manageable. Meanwhile with Microblading there will be feelings of small cuts and sounds of skin tears, which can be more painful.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE LONGEVITY OF BROW USING A DIGITAL MACHINE VS MICROBLADING?

When done properly, the vibrations from a digital machine can deposit ink pigments deeper into layers of the skin in comparison to Microblading (traditional method of cosmetic tattooing). With deeper pigment penetration, the tattoo fades more evenly and allows the clients to not have to fill in their brows. As a result, digital machine tattooed brows are able to last longer and require less frequent touch ups in comparison to Microblading.

Digital machine hair stroke tattoo is ideal for those who don’t retain color well e.g. oily skin, mature skin, dehydrated skin and very thin skin.

*Dry-Normal skin will always heal more crisp then other skin types*

WHAT TYPE OF BROW STYLES ARE OFFERED?

1) Nano Brows

Nano brows are created using a device/tattoo machine and a single needle to mimic the look of realistic hair strokes by implanting pigment beneath the skin. Ideal for:

  • Normal/Dry Skin (Strokes will last longer and will heal much more crisp than individuals with enlarged pores or have oily/combo/damaged skin types).
  • Have a good amount of natural hairs to help achieve the most natural blended look.
  • Virgin Brows

Longevity: 1-3 years

Touch Ups: Typically are recommended yearly. Touch-up periods vary depending on skin type, after care, lifestyle, and personal preference. However, one should never exceed 4 touch ups per year.

2) Powder Ombré Brows

Created using a device/tattoo machine and a single needle to add soft, medium or bold shading to the brow area. This technique can help to create a fuller, defined shape that mimics the look of makeup. This service is a great option for those who have extremely oily skin and can be used to colour-correct or cover-up previous brow tattooing.

  • All Skin Types (particularly those with Oily/Combo or problem skins)

This service is a great option for those who prefer the look of hairstrokes but are lacking natural hair. The eyebrow shape, colour and intensity is fully tailored to each individual client.

Ideal for:

  • All Skin Types (great as a second option to recommend if an oily/combo skin person wants Nano Brows, however hair strokes will continue to be the first area to fade over time)
  • Virgins Brows
  • Cover-up
  • Any amount of natural brow hairs

Longevity: 1-3 years

Touch Ups: Typically are recommended yearly. Touch-up periods vary depending on skin type, after care, lifestyle, and personal preference. However, one should never exceed 4 touch ups per year.

HOW LONG WILL THE BROWS LAST?

Typically it will last between 1-3 years. The clients skin type, age, aftercare, and lifestyle does play an important role on how quickly they fade. Annual touchups are recommended to maintain the eyebrows.

You may help extend the life of your brows by wearing sunscreen daily and avoiding physical and chemical exfoliants (ex. AHA/Retinol products).

WHAT IS THE AFTER CARE?
  • First 2 hours – any redness or irritation will decrease
  • Before bed – clean your eyebrows with a fragrance free gentle cleanser (ex. Cetaphil) and pat dry with a clean, disposable paper towel or tissue. After this, do not get the brows wet at all for 3 days.
  • Day 1 -3 – avoid sweating and all water contact on new eyebrows
  • Day 2-3 – Brows will appear slightly darker than the first day.
  • Day 4-10 With a Q-tip, apply a paper-thin layer of the provided ointment on brows twice (morning/evening). Ointment will be provided during the winter/dry seasons. In the summer time only individuals with extremely dry skin will be provided ointment.
  • Day 5 – These are NOT the true results of the eyebrow tattoo as the pigment has not yet peeled completely. Once the skin starts healing or flaking, the colour will fade considerably as it heals beneath the skin.
  • Day 5-10 Once scabs begin to peel colour may appear very light as your skin is resurfacing, the colour will reappear slowly.
  • Day 10-14 -Eyebrows are nearly fully healed
  • Day 30- Final colour will be apparent, and eyebrows should be fully healed.
  • DO NOT pick, peel, or scratch as this could cause scarring or removal of colour.
  • DO NOT touch the affected area except for applying ointment.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT THROUGHOUT THE HEALING PROCESS?

HOW IS EYEBROW SHAPE DETERMINED?

We take into consideration of our clients eye shape, bone structure and personal preference. We carefully measure and outline then come to an agreement before moving forward with tattooing.

WHAT IS YOUR STERILIZATION/SANITIZATION PROCESS?
  • All needles are single use and come in sterilized packaging. Needles are safely disposed of after each client in a sharps container, as it is required by Ontario Health and Safety.
  • Gloves are worn at all times
  • All machine parts and surfaces that may come in contact with fluids are all wrapped with protective barrier film.
  • All workstations are thoroughly disinfected with hospital grade disinfectant.
I HAVE A PREVIOUS BROW TATTOO, CAN YOU DO A TOUCH UP OR COVER-UP?

The tattoo must be VERY faded in order to work over or corrected. When doing a cover-up, we will need to go 2 shades darker than your existing tattoo.

WHAT PIGMENTS ARE USED?

We use Permablend Pigments. The ingredients are a combination of pigments, glycerin, witch hazel, aqua, rosin, benzyl alcohol, and isopropyl alcohol. It is gamma-ray sterilized, vegan and cruelty-free. They are considered the safest and highest quality pigments on the market.

WILL THE PIGMENTS TURN RED, ORANGE, BLUE OR PURPLE AFTER A WHILE, IF NOT, WHY?

NO, because the pigments are comprised of high-quality ingredients, have high lightfastness and concentration. They will only become a lighter version of the original colour(s).

WILL THE PROCEDURE BE PAINFUL?

Depending on your own pain tolerance and a couple of other factors most people experience minimal to no pain. The sensation is similar to threading due to the usage of numbing tells and digital tattoo machine used.

BROW LAMINATION + TINT FAQS

It’s perfect for those with unruly, thinning, or downward-growing brow hairs—or anyone looking for a fluffier, fuller, or more symmetrical brow shape without the need for makeup.
How long does the treatment take?
The full service takes about 45–60 minutes, including tinting and shaping.
How long do results last?
Brow lamination results last 6–8 weeks, depending on your natural hair growth cycle and aftercare. Tint typically fades within 3–4 weeks.

HOW LONG DOES THE BROW LAMINATION AND TINT LAST?

BROW LAMINATION

Results can last up to 6-8 weeks with proper aftercare. To maintain the look a new perm will need to be done every 2 months.

TINT

Effects of the tint will start to fade within 2-3 weeks as hair grows out and the tint colour fades

ARE THERE ANY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SOLUTIONS USED FOR LASH LIFT AND BROW LIFT?

At Marveleyes we use the Lift system by the The Lash Shop (Formulated in Canada).

“The Brow Lift Lotion is formulated with the salts of Thioglycolic Acid (TGA). Ethanolamine Thioglycolate and Ammonium Thioglycolate are used, as they are more gentle than pure TGA – making it better for application on the brow area and skin. The formulation has a pH of 8.2, which makes it the most gentle out of all the Alkaline lotions (up to pH of 9.6).

Most Lash Lift lotions use a high concentration of Thioglycolic Acid, which is not suitable for Brow Lamination. Using Lash Lift lotions on the eyebrow area and skin can cause irritation and/or damage to the brow hairs. “ (info credit @The Lash Shop)

WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE FOR BROW LAMINATION?

For the most part, this is a pretty easy treatment to maintain with 3 things in mind.

1. First 24 hours – You’ll need to keep your brows dry away from water, heat, steam, and cleansers.

2. Condition – Brow lamination Hair conditioner or Castor oil can be used to keep the brows hydrated and silky.

3. Brush and Style – This procedure restructures the brow hairs so it can easily be styled into a new shape. Same as having your hair straightened, brushing and styling is still required. All you need is a mascara wand for a quick daily brushing

WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE ON BROW TINT?

DAY 1:

  • Do not touch or rub your eyebrows immediately after the treatment
  • If redness or irritation occurs apply a cool damp cotton compress to the eye area. If symptoms persist for more than 24 hours seek medical advice
  • For the first two hours please avoid any water contact on the brows
  • Do not sleep on your face.

DAY 2:

  • Avoid hot water or steam on the face or near the brows.

DAY 3 & onwards :

  • Please refrain from all attempts to rub your brows.
  • Effects of the tint will start to diminish within 2 to 3 weeks as hair grows out and the tint colour fades.
  • Strong sunlight/UV light can make the tint colour fade faster– Use gentle facial cleanser and avoid exfoliating cleansers or those products containing AHA’s and oil
  • Do not apply makeup or receive any other brow treatment after the brow tinting treatment.
WHAT ARE NOT GOOD CANDIDATES FOR THIS PROCEDURE?

SKIN CONDITIONS

Should the client suffer from skin conditions, they are deemed unsuitable for the appointment.

Types of Skin Conditions:

  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Alopecia
  • Sunburn
  • Ultra-Sensitive Skin
  • Wounds or Scar Tissue in the treatment area
  • Infection
  • Pimple in the treatment area

BROW TATTOO

Clients must wait a minimum of 6-8 weeks after a semi-permanent brow tattoo procedure to get Brow Lamination.

SKIN TREATMENTS, PRODUCTS AND MEDICATION

Clients must wait a minimum of 4 weeks after their skin treatments (or follow the recommendation of their dermatologist), or approximately 6 months if on medication that affect the skin (such as Accutane).

PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING

The skin can absorb products that are applied onto the skin. If certain chemicals get absorbed into the body, it can potentially be passed onto the baby. We want to minimize the possibility of exposure and potential harm to the baby.

HAIR CONDITIONS

It is not suitable for clients with chemically damaged hair, as it can damage it further. If they have damaged brow hair, they must grow it out before getting a Brow Lamination.

Curly hair individuals consists of more disulfide bonds than straight hair. The lift lotion may not be able to break and reform all the disulfide bonds, resulting in unpredictable results.

SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL FAQS
WHAT IS SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL?

It is the removal or lightening of unwanted tattoo’s and permanent makeup use of a specially formulated saline solution by Botched Ink® and a digital tattoo machine. The technician will go over the tattoo in the same method the tattoo was applied however, this time, instead of ink, Botched Ink® saline solution is implanted into the skin.

When Botched Ink® is implanted into skin, the area quickly dries out. If the skin contains tattoo pigment this will dry out too, lifting and removing the pigment during the skins natural healing process. Treated skin forms a dried-out scab during healing, and during treatments you’ll see the scab containing some of the tattoo pigment.

BOTCHED INK SALINE REMOVAL VERSUS LASER REMOVAL

This method of removal is much safer and gentler method than laser as it i s an all-natural and FDA approved solution allowing the area to be able to be re-tattooed again after the skin heals. This method should be considered before resorting to laser removal.

Laser removal may cause the following issues:

  • Risk of scarring
  • Cannot remove skin stains caused by certain pigments with iron oxides
  • Works well on black pigments but poorly on other colours including red, green, yellow and white that makes up the colour brown
  • Pigment changes after laser making it deeper and harder to remove
BENEFITS TO USING BOTCHED INK SALINE REMOVAL SOLUTION?
  • Gentle during treatment: Botched Ink® pH closely resembles healthy skin, meaning only a mild sting which disappears very quickly. The formula includes Aloe Vera which really helps the solution soak into the skin, without needing to over traumatize you or your skin
  • Quickly dries skin, forming a thin scab: Skin treated with Botched Ink® starts to dry out within the first few hours. For you this means minimal inflammation and associated risk of scarring, plus minimal risk of infection
  • Tattoos can look better during healing: Many clients worry what they’ll look like during healing, the answer when using Botched Ink® is the treated area usually looks better. Unwanted grey or orange brows will look shades of brown during the healing process, so you’re likely to get complimented on your new eyebrows for a few days !
  • After 48 hours clients can shower and use aftercare: When treated skin is fully dried you can begin using the prescribed aftercare serum, this makes scabbing and healing more pleasant
WHY CHOOSE BOTCHED INK SALINE REMOVAL?
  1. Minimal irritation and minimal inflammation = minimal risk of scarring
  2. Effective on skin stains and colours besides black that make up brown (ie. red, white, yellow, and green)
  3. Botched Ink® has been formulated specifically to dry out skin quickly. There is minimal chance for the body’s inflammation and irritation response to begin. The scab will be thin and dry, not thick, damp or inflamed.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?

Results will vary depending on, but not limited to; your skin condition, health profile, ability to heal well, the type and colour of the pigment to be lightened, depth of pigment placement, technique used and compliance with aftercare instructions

It’s good to begin the removal process on a tattoo that’s as fresh or new as possible. If a tattoo is less than 2 months old the pigment has not fully encapsulated in the skin, and if less than a year there will be minimal skin stain. This may require 3 sessions.

If the area has had several sessions of tattooing (3 times or more), the skin will be more saturated with pigment molecules and skin stain if iron oxide pigment was used (poor quality, poor blend or poor colour choice). New pigment on top of old deep or saturated pigment, will lift off first revealing the older pigment. This may require a minimum of 3 sessions.

WHAT IS THE REMOVAL PROCESS LIKE?
  • Removing, improving or lightening pigment is a process which may take several sessions.
  • Mature or saturated tattoos may initially respond slowly
  • After 3 treatments we’ll have a better idea how easily the pigment is removing.
  • Pigment may look darker before it gets lighter, especially if it was implanted deeply
  • Pigment that’s closer to the surface removes easier
  • Brown pigment is made up of black, white, yellow, red and green. Black pigment usually removes first, making other colours more visible Grey brows may look browner, or warmer colours may begin to show.
  • Tattoo removal is a process with many variables, therefore how much pigment is removed during each visit, or how many visits are needed, cannot be known or guaranteed
WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN BOTCHED INK SALINE SOLUTION?
  • Purified Water (aqua)
  • Dead Sea Salt (sodium chloride)
  • Bromide
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium
  • Potassium
  • Sodium Chloride
  • Zinc
  • Glycerin
  • Aloe Vera Powder 200:1 (aloe barbadensis leaf juice powder)
  • Neopres COS (Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Chlorophensin)
  • Corn Starch (Zea Mays)
  • Aluminium Sulphate (Aluminium Sulphate)
  • Xanthan Gum (Xanthan Gum)
  • Sodium Hydroxide (Sodium Hydroxide)
SALINE REMOVAL CANNOT BE PERFORMED ON THOSE WITH:
  • Any open or active acne spots or wounds, active herpes outbreaks
  • Allergies to Aloe Vera
  • Warts, fungal infections or any other acute infection or inflammation of the skin
  • Skin malignancies, raised moles
  • Those taking blood thinning medication or have Hepatitis B
  • Unstable diabetes
  • Active keloids
  • Hyper-pigmented or hypo-pigmented areas anywhere on their body
  • Blood clotting problems, poor healing
  • Low white blood count (poor immunity)
  • Lupus, vitiligo, immune system disorders (these can trigger an attack or activity)
WHAT IF I AM PRONE TO SKIN HYPER-PIGMENTATION?
  • For those prone to hyper-pigmentation, follow ‘First 48 hours’ advice. After 48 hours the scab and surrounding skin must NOT be allowed to dry out or hyper-pigmentation can occur.
  • Re-apply Cavilon cream every 2 or 3 days until skin until skin returns to a normal colour
WHAT IF I MAY BE ALLERGIC TO BOTCHED INK?
If you think you may become allergic to Botched Ink saline solution, a patch test will be required before the procedure?
WILL IT BE PAINFUL?

Topical numbing cream will be applied 20 minutes prior to the start of the removal process. Throughout most of the procedure the pain level will be mild to none. There will be some short mild stinging when the saline solution penetrates trough the skin but will dissipate rapidly.

HOW SOON CAN I RECEIVE MY NEXT SALINE REMOVAL SESSION OR BE RE-TATTOOED?
  • Course of 3 treatments are recommended to be booked initially to assess ease of pigment removal
  • 1st treatment –> 2nd treatment – 8 weeks after 1st treatment —> 3rd treatment – 8weeks after 2nd treatment —> 4th treatment – 12 weeks after 3rd treatment
  • We leave a longer time in between each treatment if the skin has not returned to a normal colour
  • Once the satisfactory amount of pigments have been lifted and you would like to be tattooed again, you must wait 4 months from the last saline removal session to no interfere with the results of the new tattoo.
WHAT TO DO FOR THE FIRST 48 HOURS AFTER SALINE REMOVAL TREATMENT?
  • Any redness surrounding the treated area subsides within an hour or two Redness within the treated area becomes brown as the skin dries out. The treated area must be allowed to fully dry out over the next 48 hours. For most people the area is touch dry within the first few hours.
  • Only touch with very clean hands, ideally no touching for 48 hours. If the skin is not allowed to dry out quickly you will not get the best results.
  • Do not use any other aftercare products during this initial drying out phase Do not the area wet or sweaty for 48 hours For lip liner treatments, during this phase keep movements small and to a minimum
WHAT TO DO FOR THE AFTER THE FIRST 48 HOURS AFTER SALINE REMOVAL TREATMENT?
  • The treated area is now very dry, and a light scab will have formed. You may see pigment visible in the scab.
  • Apply Cavilon barrier cream on and slightly around the scab . Apply for up to 4 days, this will leave a soft film over the scab.
  • You can get the area a little wet when washing and showering, avoid rubbing the area. After any wetness, gently hold a clean tissue on the scab to dry it out.
  • Do not excessively wet the area, no swimming and etc…, while the scab is on.
  • Depending on the area treated, the scab will remain firmly attached for 5 to 14 days
  • Excessive movements are likely to crack the scab, which is not ideal for easy healing
  • Do not attempt to remove the scabs

Individuals prone to hyper-pigmentation must ensure the skin around the healing area does not dry out. This will mean using Cavilon cream more often so the area does not dry out. Individuals with darker skin tones (brown to black) it’s advisable to use a rich oil on the skin after the scab has healed off, such as Shea butter.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ATER THE SCABS FALLS OFF?
  • The pigment may look visibly lighter or different for the first 1-8 weeks. These are not considered the true results, as your skin healing is still healing and the remaining pigment are still settling
  • Can begin using makeup on the area if desired
  • Treat the area gently, no exfoliating or excessive sun exposure
